Rocket Health’s Fiona Nuwamanya Wins Finance Transformation and Technology Award

Rocket Health’s Fiona Nuwamanya has won the prestigious Finance Transformation and Technology Award at the recently concluded Uganda Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Awards.

Nuwamanya, who is the director of finance and administration at Rocket Health has overseen the growth of the organisation from a small call center manned by doctors to an end-to-end digital health provider with remote doctor consultations, mobile laboratory services, pharmacy deliveries, and home vaccinations.

Rocket Health, a pioneering telemedicine company, that Nuwamanya co-founded, raised five million US dollars last year, and has since expanded to the wholesale sector where it offers pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, and other healthcare products to retail pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and other facilities.

Her vision for Rocket Health is to make it ‘Africa’s leading telehealthcare provider, and a world-class employer that nurtures fulfilling and enriching careers for our employees’.

The Finance Transformation and Technology Award recognises a CFO who has invested in, and unlocked technologies that had the power to transform the business and will have played a crucial role in crafting and executing a successful business-aligned IT strategy to provide businesses with value delivery.

To win the award, Nuwamanya demonstrated revolutionary results in digital agility, leadership, and execution to enhance the structure of the finance function and value creation at Rocket Health. 

Asked what winning the prestigious finance award means to her, and Rocket Health, Nuwamanya said;

Eventually, all the hard work pays off. Eventually, there is a path we leave behind for the next generation, so they don’t have to go through the trenches we did. This is a testament of all the hard work I and my team have done over the last few years, pushing for excellence and covergence of all stakeholder interests whilst delivering value.

About Fiona Nuwamanya

Fiona Nuwamanya is the Chief Finance Officer at Rocket Health. She is a professional, Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) with an MBA from Edinburgh Business School and has previously worked as an auditor for Ernst & Young and as a finance professional at Medical Access Uganda. She has worked in over 15 countries and gained experience with various donor programs including USAID, PEPFAR, The Global Fund, and GAVI. Fiona has over 11 years of experience in financial and management aspects and continues to build and bring value to clients in both the private and development sectors.

About the Uganda CFO Awards

Organised by Deloitte Uganda, and ACCA Uganda, the CFO Awards aim to recognise outstanding CFOs excelling in the financial space. The awards which are in their 7th edition seek to raise the profile of CFOs and highlight their changing role in developing good operational and finance practices. They also recognise excellence and the essential role that finance functions play in helping to build resilient organisations and sustainable business models. Additionally, the awards create a platform for sharing best practices, driving awareness, inspiring action, and developing a community of finance leaders. To be eligible for the award, a candidate must be a Ugandan resident, be a member of a recognised professional body in good standing, and have been a CFO or head of the finance function for at least three years.
